Mangart is Slovenia’s third-highest peak at 2679 metres, accessible via the highest road in Slovenia that climbs to the Mangartsko Sedlo at 2072 metres. From the saddle, the route is short but involves exposed scrambling with steel cables and iron pegs hammered into the rock. The summit straddles the Italian border and offers vertiginous views down the sheer 1000-metre north face into the Lago di Fusine far below.
