Martinovanje 2024 – A Celebration of Wine and Tradition in Slovenian Istria

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of attending Martinovanje 2024 at Vinakoper in Koper, a celebration of Istrian wine, food, and heritage.

This year’s event, themed “There is Only One Istra by Vinakoper”, was a feast for the senses, offering visitors a taste of fine local wines, traditional Slovenian Istrian delicacies, and the warmth of community.

The annual Martinovanje marks the time when Slovenia’s newest wines from the current year’s vintage are unveiled. It’s a chance for locals and visitors alike to come together and celebrate with winemakers, sharing the unique tastes and aromas of the region. It’s not just an event – it’s an experience, and we’re here to tell you why you should make it part of your Slovenian travel plans next year!

Friday Night Tasting and Culinary Delights

Vinakoper cellar hosted tastings from various winemakers, showcasing the region’s unique varieties and blends.

This year’s collaboration features a special highlight: 15 Shades of Red”, a collection created by Istrian winemakers for a great cause.

Local winemakers like Vina Zaro, vina Montis & Eko Laura, vina Kralj, vina Montemoro, domačija Butul, vina Valenčak, vina Bordon, vina Prodan, vina Jogan, vina Markovič, vina Krmac, vina Mahnič, vina Markovič Franko, vina Gordia, vina Jerma, vina Brič, vina Korenika & Moškon, vina Korenika Robi in Doriano, and vina Vinakoper shared their stories, methods, and signature flavors that capture the essence of Istrian wine.

Visitors also enjoyed pairing these wines with local culinary treats, thanks to a partnership with the esteemed Pršutarna in stancerija Buršič.

This collaboration brought out the very best of Slovenian Istrian flavors, from succulent ham in dough to savory brodet. Each pairing, carefully crafted by masterful chefs, highlighted the complex and refined characteristics of both wine and local meat dishes.

A Special Martin’s Dinner by Michelin-Star Chef Tilen Župevec

For those who crave a fine dining experience, Martin’s Dinner by Kogo was a perfect blend of high-end cuisine and Istrian tradition. Michelin-awarded chef Tilen Župevec designed a menu inspired by the “zero waste” philosophy, focusing on sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients.
