About This Project
visit-slovenia.eu is an independent, non-commercial travel resource built and maintained by contributors who live in Slovenia. We have no affiliation with the Slovenian Tourist Board, any tour operator, or hotel booking platform.
Our mission is simple: build the most complete English-language database of Slovenian natural and cultural attractions. Not a blog with recycled content — a genuine data resource backed by local knowledge and verified information.
What We Cover
We maintain comprehensive databases covering:
- 300+ waterfalls — the most complete English-language waterfall database for Slovenia
- 500+ castles and ruins — from medieval fortresses to Renaissance manors
- Beaches and swimming areas — sea, lake, and river swimming spots with water quality data
- Hiking trails — searchable index with difficulty ratings and elevation data
- Thermal spas — comparison tables with prices, temperatures, and facilities
- Caves and underground sites — beyond Postojna, the caves most visitors never hear about
We also publish live weather data from ARSO (the Slovenian Environment Agency) and editorial guides written from a resident’s perspective.
Why This Site Exists
Most English-language content about Slovenia falls into three categories: thin travel blogs recycling the same “Top 10” lists, hotel affiliate pages disguised as guides, or official tourism board content that reads like a press release. None of these serve the traveller who wants real data — GPS coordinates, access difficulty ratings, seasonal conditions, honest cost breakdowns.
We believe Slovenia deserves better coverage. With more waterfalls per square kilometre than almost any country in Europe, over 500 castles and ruins, 10,000+ kilometres of marked hiking trails, and a 46-kilometre coastline packed with character, this is a country that rewards those who look beyond the standard itinerary.
Our Approach
Every database entry is sourced from official records (Wikipedia, ARSO, Hribi.net, municipal databases), cross-referenced with local knowledge, and tagged with GPS coordinates wherever possible. Editorial content is written by contributors based in Slovenia who know the difference between tourist-season prices and local prices, and who can tell you which waterfall is worth the 90-minute hike and which one has a car park 50 metres away.
We do not accept sponsored content, paid placements, or affiliate commissions. No ads. No tracking beyond basic server logs. Just data.
